Awkwardly Quiet Waiting Rooms

When one of my children was 10 years old, he wrote a short silly song about not eating cat meat so you wouldn’t get a tummy ache and have to go to the doctor and sit in “one of those awkwardly quiet waiting rooms.” His grandfather was in the hospital at that time and although he had not eaten cat meat ❤️ this song from my son’s 10-year old self was clearly about avoiding the experience we were all having.

This song was stuck in my head this morning.

Lately I have met so many people in the “awkwardly quiet waiting rooms” of medical centers, hospitals, doctor’s offices, pharmacies, etc.

Some of these people have smiles, some don’t.

Some have hair, some don’t.

Some have Jesus, some don’t.

Some have financial hardships, some don’t.

Some have an incredibly positive mindset, some don’t.

Some have a support system, some don’t.

And I can tell you that every one of them has a heart that loves

and wants to be loved,

and has a lifetime of stories to share

and wishes this wasn’t one of them.

We remain grateful and well aware that gifts are often wrapped up as challenges and blessings are ours every day.

So please accept some love from us if you are in the middle of a story you don’t want to be in,

and remember you might be the light in someone else’s.
