Dear Cancer,

You showed up uninvited

and unwelcomed,

and met us unprepared.

I’m not suggesting you came empty handed

or that there aren’t gifts you are slowly delivering like a slow drip,

which we will one day look back on with obvious clarity.

But right now it feels like you’re just taking from us

with no concern or acknowledgment for the tears or grief you leave behind

and even though we’re stronger than your disruption

and I know love is winning every day,

I don’t mean to be rude but

the truth is

honestly

I can’t wait to never see you again.
